Lower back pain, lumbar spine problems and sciatic nerve irritation can all be important causes of hip pain both in athletes and in degenerative conditions.  It is important to have an excellent team approach to help differentiate between these to ensure that the proper diagnosis is made and your pain is quickly treated.  Lower back pain can be treated conservatively or with surgery as determined by a physiatrist or spine surgeon.
