Sacroiliac Joint Pain

Sacroiliac Joint Pain

The Sacroiliac joint is the connection between the spine and the pelvis.  The sacroiliac joint has very little movement but is still an important joint.  There are significant stresses that cross this joint.  The joint can become inflamed and cause lower back, buttock, or hip pain.  Treatment is often physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication and rest.  Occasionally, a steroid shot can be added (done by a radiologist with guidance), and rarely the joint needs to be fused (most commonly done by a spine surgeon)..
