Shoulder

The Shoulder

The shoulder is an amazing joint, try washing your hair, feeding yourself or scratching your back without moving your shoulder.  The shoulder is not a ball and socket like it is often pictured, it is more like a golf ball sitting on a golf tee.  This gives it an amazing ability to move but means it needs lots of structures to help hold the ball on the tee.  These include the rotator cuff, the labrum, the shoulder or glenohumeral ligmaments and the bones.  The most commonly injured structures in the shoulder include the rotator cuff, the labrum, the biceps tendon, and the AC joint.  Shoulder injuries can occur as chronic repetitive trauma, an acute injury, or a combination of both.  Often shoulder injuries are not simply one structure injured, many times there are combinations of more than one.  Dr Petre has expertise in caring for all of these injuries both with surgery and with non-surgical treatments.
